I used to attend HCPS in the 80's. I would be pleased to see a few pictures of what the school and grounds look like now - my memories from back then is a little hazy. Perhaps you could add an "about the school" section in the menu? Maybe include some details like address, number of students, size of the school, number of teachers etc. If you've included these somewhere I can't find them! Thanks. Dave

Hi, I grew up in Hillcrest, and attended Hillcrest Primary School from grade 1 to 7 (1997) and they were honestly some of the BEST years and memories of my life so far. I live in Vancouver Canada now, it's the place I call home, but a piece of my heart will always be in South Africa, and in Hillcrest in particular. I plan to visit for the first time in 9 years since I emigrated next June. I find it sad that most of the people I grew up with are all over the world now, and I will never see them again. If there is a meaning to this message it's enjoy your experience in Hillcrest, I'm so proud to be from there, I had the best childhood a person could ask for. I only hope that when I visit I am able to relive some of the memories. “Never regret anything that made you smile.”

Barbara I am glad to see that someone else has also been checking up on this and you are correct in all you say. I would just like to add a couple of other things. The first and most important is that children HAVE TO be educated until they are 16 or in grade 10. This means that the school in your area has to accept them wether you pay fees or not. Does not matter how much money you have. This means that they cant force anyone to sign the school fee commitment forms. If you fall inot arrears, and your chils is under 16 they cant even ask for the fees if you are in the feeder area. Children dont have to wear uniforms if they cant afford them. They cant be victimised or excluded from any of the "free" school activities. Another thing is that the means test is not allowed to be applied. This is to stop the people who earn a lot but spend a lot applying for concessions. There is a sliding scale that rates the whole cost of schooling against total earnings then applies a certain concession. It also allows for more than one child in more than one school. Another thisng is that this is reviewed on a regulat basis. I cant stand the way that schools dont tell parents these things and take a threatening attitude when sending out letters and commtiment forms for fees. I hope that people read your post and spread the word. 83 guestbook entries |
